팍세에서 자동차로 약 1시간 이내의 거리에 위치하고 있는 

참파삭 지역의 '왓푸' 사원은 '미니 앙코르 왓' 이라고도 하는데

이미 오래전 유네스코가 지정한 세계문화유산으로

지금으로부터 약1.000년전의 라오스 건축물로  

인근의 잘알려진 캄보디아의 '앙코르 왓' 보다

100년이나 더 앞서는 유물로 더욱 유명한 곳입니다.

다만 너무 오래 된 세월 탓에 원래의 모습을 찾아 보기 어렵기에

이 곳을 찾는 여행객 등으로부터

많은 아쉬움을 남기고 있는 곳입니다.

이에 따라 오래전부터 유네스코는 복원을 서두르고 있는데

특히 얼마전부터는 한국정부도 적극 참여하고 나서 

인근의 홍낭시다를 복원하고 있기에 

깊은 관심이 모아 지고 있는 곳이기도 합니다.

매년 2월에는 왓푸축제까지 열리고 있습니다.
